Your data, explained
Privacy policy
Effective date: 7 October 2026
GPS Speed has no account system, advertising, analytics SDK, tracking identifier, subscription or in-app purchase. All app features are included without a charge from the app.
Location and recordings
With your permission, Apple's Core Location supplies location, accuracy, speed, altitude and course. These measurements are processed on your device. Only a recording you start is saved as a route with its name, times and statistics in the app's local database. Active recording may continue when the screen is locked. Pausing or finishing stops background recording. Force-quitting the app interrupts recording; reopen it to recover the saved recording. We do not run a server that receives your recordings.
Optional motion permission
The Flight screen can use Apple's Core Motion barometer to show pressure. Pressure readings are processed on device and are not uploaded by GPS Speed. Denying motion permission does not prevent speed measurement or access to saved recordings.
Optional network maps
Network maps are off until you enable them. Speed measurement, local route display and previously downloaded maps do not require enabling network maps. When enabled, online maps request styles, fonts and map tiles from OpenFreeMap. Offline-area downloads request an archive catalog and selected byte ranges from Protomaps. These services and their hosting/CDN providers receive normal network information such as your IP address, request time and app/device information. Tile requests can reveal the area you view; download ranges can reveal the area you select. A viewed area may include your current position. GPS Speed does not attach your ride name, full recording, exact live coordinate, speed history, advertising identifier or account identifier to these requests.
Providers may retain operational and security logs under their own policies. OpenFreeMap describes anonymized access logs, error logs that may include IP addresses and requested URLs for seven days, and temporary security logging for up to thirty days. GPS Speed conservatively discloses map-area location and operational diagnostic data in its store privacy information. This data is used for map functionality and service security, not cross-app advertising or tracking by GPS Speed.
You can switch network maps off in Settings at any time. This stops new online rendering and cancels active downloads while retaining completed download chunks for a later Retry. Local downloaded maps continue to work. Free third-party map services can change or be unavailable; GPS Speed cannot guarantee their availability.

Imports and sharing
GPX and ZIP files are read only when you select them. Imports merge validated recordings into the local database. Exports can contain precise route coordinates, times, names and statistics. A diagnostic export contains structural receiver events, counters and timestamps, but no coordinates, speed values, pressure values or ride names. Files leave the app only when you choose a destination in the iOS share sheet. The selected destination's own privacy practices apply. Temporary export copies can be removed from Settings without deleting your original recordings.
Retention, deletion and device backups
Recordings remain until you delete them from History or delete the app. Preferences remain until you change them or delete the app. Receiver diagnostics are limited to two rotating files of approximately 128 KB each and remain on device. Offline maps remain until you delete them from Saved areas or delete the app. Temporary export files, diagnostics and downloaded map files are excluded from device backup. Your recordings and preferences can be included in Apple device backups if you enable backups; Apple's terms and settings control those backups. Deleting app data does not delete exports you have already saved elsewhere or copies in earlier backups.
Your choices
Use iOS Settings to revoke location or motion access, choose approximate or precise location, or manage device backups. Browse, import, export and delete saved recordings without granting location permission. For privacy or support questions, email gabor@walterscube.com. We do not sell your recordings or use them to identify you across apps.
Policy changes
Future versions will update this policy and store disclosures if their data practices change.
